@Communities Internet develops and manages community web sites. We currently operate in Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and are expanding into Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute . We will provide support to existing community web sites where they promote the same positive community message.

Local Involvement
We are a community based not for profit company and a registered Scottish charity. The sites which we manage and develop can not be sold. We do not fully develop a web site unless there is local representation helping us with the development of the site which means we need a local person or an organisation to work with us towards the good of the community. Everyone and anyone can join the community team.

We work in partnership with all groups in the community and we follow a robust set of rules to ensure that the web sites promote best practice.

Rules
We have developed a set of rules and guidelines for our sites. This will help explain what goes in and what doesn't go in to an @Community web site. The rules are robust, simple and common sense:

First Rule: We will not deliberately include a photo of an individual or private property without receiving permission from that individual or the owner of the property.
The right to privacy is a fundamental one and we respect it. If you get included scenery photo or you are in a group photograph we apologise, from our point of view you are not the subject - if you let us know we'll try to blur your image.

Second Rule: We will not deliberately place a photo of a child (child - up to the age of 14) without receiving permission from a parent or from an organisation responsible for that child.
We used to have 16 age but parents of 14 - 16 year olds seemed bemused and the kids seemed upset we were asking, so we lowered it to 14. If we are photographing a responsible organisation with youth membership, we ask their permission, if a parent wants the photo removed or blurred we will do so.

Third Rule: Communities come first. The sites will always try to promote the community in a positive way.
They are community web site not regional web sites, so in order of loyalty they go: Community, County, Country. This means that if the country disagrees with the community, the community web site will side on its community.

Fourth Rule: We will respect people's privacy. If they do not want to contribute to the web site we will not go against their wishes.
Explained this earlier, we define these web sites as "by consent" - if you don't say yes we don't put it in!

Fifth Rule: No political statements will be placed on the sites and we will not discriminate on any grounds.
Communities are made up of a wide cross section of interests and that makes it strong and vibrant - we support every cross section that does not promote hate or bigotry - if your organisation is associated or promotes these ideals you'll not get in the site, and since we have been asked who makes that determination, the answer is the CI Web Master.

Sixth Rule: No third party advertising will be placed on the sites. Allowances maybe made for businesses within the area.
Banner advertising doesn't work and since community sites support local business, there would be a clear conflict of interest advertising other businesses which could effect our local business base,  our loyalty is: Community, County then Country. Now this makes our fund raising a little difficult, but we side on our principals.

Seventh Rule: The site is free to all individuals and community organisations. We will either host their web pages free of charge or create a link to them. If a community organisation, the web team will develop the pages for them.
Straight forward - the web sites are held in trust for the communities, that's why we are here, so that's what we do! Local businesses are part of our community
